THAT THING I'VE BEEN WANTING TO SHARE...
A big career change, a family trip, and some things I've been digging lately.
Timing things out can be really tricky.
Even when things go really right…they take time. Still, not much of substance gets built in a day.
We’re lucky in comics that most things happen pretty quickly. Movies often take years to produce. Comics though, typically move a bit faster.
That is…unless you’re building something really big.
And that’s what I’ve been doing.
Some of you have probably wondered why I’ve been a little quiet this summer— why my posts have been a bit contemplative about the comics industry on the whole— also I haven’t shown much work.
Well…
THE VENTURE
I’m excited to finally get to share this next step of my comics journey with you all.
I’m joining Filip Sablik (Publisher) and Jamie S. Rich (Editor in Chief) along with my longtime producer Eric Gitter in an all new comics publishing company.
I can’t imagine partners that I believe in more. Each of us bring something special to the table. Moreover— we’re lock step in our vision for what we want this company AND industry to be.
Here’s a link to the full announcement over at the Hollywood Reporter—

This is a big step for all of us.
We’re working incredibly hard to bring something special to this industry that we all love so much. We know what a responsibility that is.
And yes, we realize this is just a hint at what’s to come. We promise you’ll hear more very soon.
Trust me—it’s going to be really really cool!
THE HOLIDAY
I don’t remember the last time that I got away with my family and didn’t have to take work with me.
For YEARS, pre-iPad, I would even have to go so far as to schlep a full array of 11x17 art boards, rulers, pens, pencils, and brushes with me.
In 2019, after a particularly brutal year, I was able to bring my family on a working vacation to Europe thanks to Comic Con Paris and the wonderful folks at Thought Bubble.
During that trip, we took a few days and made our way to Scotland. We fell in love with the place and vowed that we’d return and make a proper trip of it.
At the time, we had no idea that we’d have a global pandemic and wouldn’t make it much of anywhere, for a good long while.
This year, we took our travel savings and points, and made a trip back to Scotland.
It was a whirlwind tour. We went hard, tried to see all that we could, and still only skimmed the surface of the country’s beauty.
We saw medieval cities, two hundred year old distilleries, gorgeous museums, ancient cairns, and hairy highland cattle.
We ate too much, enjoyed more than a bit of delicious scotch, explored, and laughed our asses off.
It was a lovely time.
No picture can begin to capture such a magical place and wonderful time.
Still, I’m going to share a few of my favorites with you, my friends.
A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS…
I’ve decided to start sharing a peek at some of the things I’m enjoying, every month.
Not all of them are going to be new or even current.
Some are going to be things I’m rewatching or rereading.
Some are going to be bits of brilliant inspiration like this MAZZUCCHELLI BATMAN YEAR ONE ARTIST EDITION.
From time to time I’m even going to share a particularly tasty bottle or beverage, like this delightful “Bottle Your Own” single malt from Oban.
They’re not all going to be highbrow.
Some will probably even be downright silly. They’re things I like, after all.
AS ALWAYS…GET MY STUFF!
With the work I’m going to be doing over the next year, I’m honestly not sure that I’m going to make it to may conventions for a while.
If you’d still like to get that cool exclusive signed book, piece of original art, enamel pin, coin, or other bit of goodness swing by my ONLINE SHOP!
Remember—comic creators are the epitome of small businesses. Every time you support us directly, it’s a big help.
I’ll wrap things up with a picture of my sweet dunderhead cat.
Alright— that’s it for today!
And what a big, exciting, somewhat scary day it’s been!
I want to take an extra moment and thank each and every one of you for what you do for this comics community.
We’re all in this together— publishers, creators, retailers, and fans.
Check back over the next few months for more exciting updates on this new thing.
I promise, we’ve got some cool news coming your way!
Talk soon!
Cheers!
Great to hear, congrats!
Congrats!
